This past weekend Retro Affect hosted a Global Game Jam location for the great city of Gilbert, Arizona. Think Phoenix if you don't know what a Gilbert is. It was a great time filled with friends, games, and jam. Raspberry jam...
LONESTAR!.
So I proudly present to the world the game that I created in 48 hours. (6 of those hours were spent sleeping.)
I don't actually want to give too much away about the game, so hopefully that screenshot will entice you enough to give it a whirl. It works on
Windows platforms, but should run well enough on OSX with one of those fancy run-windows-programs applications.
This was created from nothing using Game Maker 8. The Game Jam actually started at 5pm on Friday, and I spent a majority of that night brainstorming with the other jammers. An idea for a game that uses a tutorial to deceive the player came up, and I thought it would be a cool idea to pursue.
Saturday was spent making every single component for the game that I could, and Sunday was spent making all 30 (!) levels that are in the game. I also asked a good friend of mine
Alec Holowka to pitch in for music, and like a true hero he always delivers.
Oh, and I totally did not sleep between Saturday and Sunday. In fact, right now while writing this blog post I have been awake for
34 hours. And hey, look at this! It was featured on
Indie Games Blog!
I would love to hear any feedback about the game, so if you have any be sure to drop a comment in the form below.

Hey I enjoyed this one quite a bit. I've played a lot of indie games with malevolent tutorials, so that part didn't really grab a hold of me but the core gameplay was really fine. The only level that was really tough for me was Traded or Trading or whatever, but it I solved it just before I got too frustrated. That's always awesome! :D I also liked how the protagonist reminded me of Yume Nikki's and the design of the hedgehog characters. Obviously you did something right since I checked out the website. Pretty excited to see people making games in the Phoenix area, hopefully I will also be able to soon. Anyway feel free to email me if you have any questions.

I liked this game, it was ripe with symbolism. Also, the ending was a real downer.... Or is that a lie too?

Dude, amazing game. Absolutely love the tight controls. They aren't slippery and weird. Almost got stuck in "symmetry". Awesome. Also, thanks for leading me to game maker 8 looks like an amazingly helpful program for a non programmer.

@Karsing: Thanks! That depends which ending you got ; )
@Josiah: Thanks! I really recommend Game Maker to any non-programmers that want to get into game making. It's fast and easy to get an idea running on the screen, which made it perfect for a 48 hour game jam.

Damn it, there are different endings?! Now I have real work to do to go figure it out!

Nice concept. It brought back some great nostalgic feeling that Portal set in me. I was waiting for a companion cube stage.
There wasn't a stage that had me stumped for longer than a few minutes. "Symmetry" was probably the toughest one. I still haven't found the second ending, I've tried not pressing the button on the spikes stage, and gathering up the spikes and using them everywhere. I also tried waiting out the 30 second stage. I'll find it soon enough :D
A+ game! Nicely thought out man!
